Arizona
Firm Unveils Nostalgia Cars and
Announces New Racing Association
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tulsa, Oklahoma (Tuesday, January 10, 2006)
– Are you a member of the racing fraternity who longs for the
glory days of wingless open wheel racing? Do you have fond memories
of the dazzling, colorful cars that graced our nation’s short
tracks and fairgrounds in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s?
Well, Twister Cars
has developed the perfect response
to those daydreams.
Today, Buckeye, Arizona based Twister Cars unveiled two beautiful
examples of their new nostalgia style race cars at the Golden Driller
Expo, site of the 2006 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. These ready-to-race
replicas of racing history provide an exciting, new opportunity for
youngsters and oldsters alike to go racing. The first two cars on
display at the four day trade show represent a tribute to fabulous
dirt cars of the past. The bright yellow mini retro is a sure bet
to inspire memories of the legendary Emmett Hahn and his hard charging
style while at the wheel of the original, full sized John Zink Specials.
The brilliant red replica, fittingly nicknamed “Old School”,
is the spitting image of the late Hank Arnold’s renowned Twister.
The cars are the brainchild of Buckeye, Arizona’s Jimmy
Schrum. Together with his business partner, Phoenix area
steel executive Brent Burnstein, Jimmy created Twister Cars. Schrum
is no stranger to the open wheel racing fraternity. His racing background
and motor sports experience runs the gamut from childhood fan to full
fledged competitor as driver & owner of super modifieds, midgets
and sprint cars. Additionally his free hand (no computer aided design)
racing graphics & artwork have adorned race cars and motor sports
apparel for hundreds of drivers, cars and race tracks literally throughout
the world for the past thirty plus years. In fact, examples of Jimmy’s
artwork can be found at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville,
IA or just about anywhere a group of t-shirt wearing race fans gather.
When asked what racing niche these cars were expected to fill, Jimmy
responded “When I first developed the concept of these cars
I had three things in mind. Number one, of course, was safety; number
two was to ensure affordability; and number three was the cars had
to provide competitive fun for all involved. While these cars may
be easy on the eye, they have been built with an emphasis on safety
and to withstand the rigors of close competition. In fact, the competitive
niche they will certainly fill for the younger racer is the gap or
rung on the racing ladder between 1⁄4 midgets and mini-sprints
or full fledged midgets. Twister Cars have the typical handling characteristics
of much larger open wheeled racers and are designed primarily to run
the shortest of dirt tracks up to a 1⁄4 mile. The cars are capable
of speeds from fifty to seventy miles per hour depending on gearing,
track length, etc.” Schrum went on to say, “These cars
are a blast to drive and can also accommodate those ‘older,
larger’ drivers looking to have a barrel of fun without spending
a barrel of money.”
When queried about affordability Schrum responded, “There really
isn’t a better bargain to be found in racing today. Powered
by an affordable, race prepared and sealed ‘spec’ engine
you can have a Twister Car without having to take a second mortgage
on the family home. $6,200 will get you get you a complete, ready-to-race
car. All you need to add to go racing is your favorite livery and
a driver. Of course I can also add the paint and lettering for a nominal
fee,” Schrum added.
Jimmy also announced the creation of the Mini Retro Racing Association
with Donovan Schrum serving as the organization’s National Director.
Donnie will be handling all organizational activities for both local
and regional branches of the national sanctioning body.
If you would like to see these cars in person, they will be featured
throughout the week at the Twister Car display at the Chili Bowl Midget
Nationals.
